Piraeus and Athens – Day 9 – Oct 9th

I slept much, much better, admittedly waking early at 06:15, to find we were already at dock in Piraeus. The view today wasn’t so nice, with the Cruise Terminal opposite. We’ve been to Athens a few times and Jane needs to get some more laundry out of the way, plus three consecutive days out may be a bit tiring given I’m still getting over my cold. I was all set to head to do the laundry again before breakfast when she decided that I wasn’t to be trusted. How am I ever going to be able to get my little launderers badge if I’m not allowed out on my own. We went for breakfast quite late, all by ourselves. We already knew that we would be as our table mates are all out in Athens today.

After breakfast we headed into the Grills Lounge where I had some blog maintenance to do while we waited for the laundry to finish. Jane eventually returned and we headed up to the Grills terrace on Deck 12 to sit in the sun for a while, grabbing a skinny latte from Ricky, the waiter, on the way. It was nice and relaxing, but I was fully expecting the 12 o’clock whistle to startle me again so I gave a countdown to 12 only for it not to appear. It must only happen on sea days.

Neither of us were very hungry and we weren’t very inspired by the PG lunch menu so we headed down to the Lido where I ordered up a pizza. There’s a new system in place with a form that you fill in, ticking off the three element choices, sauce, cheese type and toppings. I chose a tomato base with pizzarella cheese, I correctly assumed this was a mozzarella substitute and mushrooms and pepperoni. This was much better than the biscuity thing I had on QE in Norway, a light crust with gooey cheesy goodness.

After lunch we went to the room to chill and read on the balcony, the sky was clouding over so it was nice to get what sun there was on the balcony. We had a very lazy day with the most exciting thing being dinner and Tournedos Rossini and a spicy doughnut dessert

After dinner I went for a stroll and notice for the first time the Starlink satellite dishes at the back of deck 10 where we now get our nice internet from.
