Cephalonia, Argostoli – Day 12 – Oct 12th

Today’s Daily Programme can be found here…

We’d had a massive electrical storm overnight, to be honest I’d not noticed a thing and slept right through it, but Jane said it was spectacular. When I finally woke it was a lovely morning with beautiful views over Argostoli. The early shore excursions were already on their way off the ship and it wasn’t yet 08:00. We were going to have a stroll around Argostoli in the morning as we hadn’t had any excursions booked, so it was a leisurely potter before going for breakfast.

We were docked right in town so it was a short walk into Argostoli, which turned out to be a thriving town with a bustling high street with proper shops and not just tourist tat. The walk in was nice and level with lovely views out over the bay. We had some bits and pieces to replenish and after the chores were out of the way stopped for a coffee before heading back to the ship.

It was still early but the sun was getting up and it was getting warm so we returned to the routine sunbathe, eat and sunbathe. We went to deck 12 where there were plenty of sunbeds and relaxed until lunchtime. We had intended to pop back into Argostoli to eat at the Captain’s Table, a local restaurant which had been recommended to us previously, but Jane had other ideas, she really fancied a Lido Grill burger. The smaller restaurants, Lido Grill and Pasta/Pizza station on Queen Victoria are excellent, the burger was really nice and just what the doctor ordered, the only downside was that we couldn’t get a table on the Lido deck that was in the shade, there were tables available but they were in full sun.

After lunch it was more of the same – we went back up to 12 and our sun loungers from earlier were still available so we parked ourselves there for the duration. Three o’clock arrived as did Annabelle bearing gifts of mint choc chip ice cream which were graciously accepted. We were starting to flag in the heat so by 16:00 we were back in the room where I enjoyed watching the South African bowlers demolish the Aussies in their Cricket World Cup match.

We didn’t go to the Commodore Club at 5 pm instead opting for a pre-dinner drink in the Grills Lounge where we met up with some of our table mates. I was able to offer some technical expertise in sharing photos using airdrop, which was a surprise to me as I’m not very good with Apple.

We went to the A La Carte menu for dinner having the Duck a L’Orange prepared table side by the Maitre’D, it was huge and poor Jane couldn’t finish her dinner, which was lucky for me as I hoovered up that that she couldn’t eat.
