I didn’t sleep fantastically well on the first night, I never do, the ships movement coupled with all the squeaks and rattles, and sleeping in a new bed made for a slightly restless night. Anyway I dragged my backside out of bed at 7 and made my way up to the gym for my morning’s constitutional. I’m on the tail end of a heavy cold so walking up from deck 4 to deck 9 nearly killed me! Goodness knows what the run was going to do to me, as it turned out it wasn’t too bad, I pounded out 5km and did a few static weights before heading back to the room for a shower and on to breakfast. Jane had already had coffee from room service so was ready for the day to start.
Breakfast of stewed fruit, kippers and poached eggs were polished off before heading off for Jane’s line dancing class. Excellent

entertainment, lots of ladies and one bloke all having a lot of fun.
Next up is Fencing classes, that’s one for me. I did it on the Victoria in 2014, and really enjoyed it. I’m not really built to be a fencer, 6’6″ and 18 stones means I’m too big and slow, and not nearly stabby enough, but it is fun when all’s said and done. And as I found out bloody hard work!!!! I had to return to my room for a shower and change of clothes.
Lunch in Britannia was a melon an papaya tartar followed sea bass and a mushroom tagliatelle, all very nice. I had chocolate hazelnut tart as dessert, much to Jane’s disgust, I needed the energy is my excuse.
We had the Roll-call for the Cruise Critic members at 14.00 which was nice, It’s always good putting faces to names and sharing experiences.
After the meet and greet we disappeared off for afternoon tea, but there was a massive queue, we were a little late, so it was off to the Lido for our backup plan, scone with jam and cream – yummie! This was followed by a trip down to the Golden Lion for a quiz -17 out of 20 – which wasn’t bad but nowhere near to getting a stamp.
Not to worry, it’s now 16.30 and the Commodore Club is beckoning. The Cosmopolitan was deemed to be too expensive at 12.95 USD, so it’s Margarita night tonight, much more affordable at 8.95 USD. Either way they both seem to have the desired effect.
