Steaming North Leaving the Sun – Friday 29th November – Day 13

Today’s Daily Programme Can Be Found Here

Our final port of call on this cruise behind us we are now heading north and back to winter, but we were clinging on to the last vestiges of summer with another beautiful day out on deck. First though we had breakfast to navigate in the PG restaurant and very nice it was too, spicy mushroom  and extra chilli omelette. I headed down to the Royal Court Theatre after breakfast to see the first of the Insights lectures which was Nancy Appleyard exploring the complexities of the English Language. This was followed by John Laverick’s talk on the first of the Cunard cruise lines.

While this was going on, the shopping arcade was having Black Friday sale, so the whole of deck three was teeming with bargain hunters. I’m not sure if there were any to be had but our tablemates went to look for some Chanel bargains, and found none.

Jane on the other hand found the sunshine on the Grillls Terrace bagging herself a couple of comfy chairs on the starboard side. I joined her after my lectures and spent a very nice hour getting my last bit of basking in for this year.

Today’s lunch has been the first time where I have been confronted with more than a single dish that I would really like to eat. The sandwich of the day was a cheese and onion toastie and who doesn’t love one of those, there was gammon egg and chips, then finally angry prawn tagliatelle which turned out to be my choice and a very good one it was too. One of our tablemates had the gammon and that looked equally as nice.

The sun had started to fade, so we ended up un the Commodore Club for a couple of hours to chill and read out of the way. Even the comfy seats in the Commodore Clab aren’t very comfy, so after an hour we decided to head back to the room to see if the laundry was back from the cleaners, but our travels took us back along past the Grill Terrace and the sun was out again so we found a nice sunny corner to sit and read for a while. All thing must come to and though and as the sun dipped behind the funnel we headed back to the room.

After sorting out the laundry we headed downstairs to the Chart Room for a cocktail before getting ready for the Roaring Twenties Gala night. I had a  Doombar and Jane had one of the Zodiac cocktails, Taurus this time, The Eye of the Storm a strange drink that came in an elephant glass and was according to Jane “not nice”.

It was the Roaring 20’s Gala so Jane was decked out in her flapper dress and was amazed that she could still zip it up given the amount of food we’ve eaten on this voyage. I know if it was me it wouldn’t be happening. The Gala dinner featured some more of Michel Roux’s creations, I tried the lamb tortelloni appetizer which was really nice but eschewed his entree for the chateaubriand while Jane had the lobster.
