Today’s Daily Programme is here ….
We had an early start because we were going on a tour out to do some whale watching with a coach leaving at 8:45. So we gave the restaurant breakfast a miss and we had breakfast in the room. It’s all very nice but sitting down at a little table. Eating breakfast in the room is not the easiest thing on the planet to do, even in Queens Grill where you have a table and a Butler to lay it all out for you. As it was Jane wasn’t feeling at all well, so I ended up going all by myself. It took about 50 minutes to get there. When we arrived in Puerto Colon there was quite a big queue of other passengers for the cruise ship. Once aboard we were ushered to our reserved sun loungers out on the trampette and they were very nice and very comfortable. It turns out that it was probably a very good idea that Jane didn’t come on the whale watching trip as she’s very prone to sea sickness and although the catamaran sails as a flat boat and doesn’t heel, the sea itself, although not that choppy had a fair swell. So the catamaran was bobbling around quite a lot and she would have been seasick. The trip itself was true to its words. We saw lots of whales, but they were Pilot Whales, which are just overpriced dolphins, they were very boring whales and didn’t move much. They didn’t jump out the water or do any tricks, it turns out they’ve been fishing all night for giant squid and were having a sleep so we couldn’t make any noise. We’re headed back to a little bay where the ship anchored and the more adventurous guests could dive in off the back into the sea. I wasn’t one of them. But we didn’t make it back in time for lunch so I ended up going to the chef’s galley and ordered a very nice burger, chips and onion rings. Jane was incredibly jealous and stole half of it even though she’d already had lunch in the QG restaurant.

After lunch we headed up to the girls terrace to see if we could snag some some beds, the terrace itself is very small and has a limited number of beds, there wasn’t one available or rather one available that Jane could actually use in the sun. So we ended up going up one level out one deck to the boardwalk where although there were no beds out at the time, there was a very kind steward there who went and grabbed a couple and put them in the sun for us. We lay in the sun there until there was time to head down to the Carinthia lounge and get ready for the afternoon trivia quiz. Well what can I say, who’d have thunk it. We were the champions. We managed to win the quiz with 17/20 and by getting the nearest year in the tie break. The tie break was in which year did Amelia Earhart fly across the Atlantic.

From there triumphantly we went up to the Commodore Club for a celebratory drink. I had a very nice glass of cider. I was quite pleased with that and Jane had a Mai Tai. Unfortunately she didn’t like the Mai Tai so after a couple of sips decided that it wasn’t right and sent it back. Our waitress Loyda managed to sort that out without any fuss and the second attempt was very very nice apparently.

We’d ordered the Chateaubriand for dinner along with Crepes Suzette, everything was very very nice. The Chateaubriand was beautifully pink and melting in the mouth tender. The Crepes were rich with Grand Marnier tempered by the cool vanilla ice cream, lovely.
