Today’s Daily Programme can be found here…

We’re in Cadiz today, a city we’ve visited many times, and we love it but there’s an issue. I’m full of a cold, probably the first proper cold since COVID, and I feel terrible so after a late breakfast where we were alone at our table, we headed into Cadiz with the sole intention of finding a Farmacia, luckily there’s a couple dotted around Cadiz.

Actually there are probably more Farmacia than bars. I wanted some COVID lateral flow tests, as we’d neglected to pack any, some Lemsip or the Spanish equivalent and some anti-histamine because I came up in a rash on my arm yesterday and itchy eyes. I’m happy to say those symptoms have gone but the cold hasn’t. There was a lot of worrying about taking a COVID test, what would I do if it’s positive etc. but thankfully it’s negative, so now I’m only going to be spreading my cold around the ship no doubt seeding worry In people’s minds.

We  went up for lunch to the PG dining room as there was Moules on offer, and the were delicious too,. I’m not sure if it’s relief at being Covid negative but I’m now feeling terrible, so we headed back to the room where Jane had planned to do some laundry and I headed to bed for a while, feeling very sorry for myself. Jane disappeared upstairs to get some sunshine on the loungers as it was nice and warm out. I got myself ready for my 4 pm Zoom – I connected just fine, but the internet was awful. I can only assume this was because of interference in the port disrupting the satellite signal. I ended up disconnecting because I was missing half of it.

I also headed upstairs to find Jane and maybe grab some sun and warm my aching bones.I found Jane on the Grills Terrace and we sat in the sun for an hour or so before disappearing inside to the lounge to re-hydrate – Jane very kindly offered to go down to the Winter Garden to get one of yesterday’s Flu Busters, but she couldn’t as they switch at 17:00 from the smoothie type of virgin cocktails to the more grown up types. In the absence of that I fancied a Dandelion and Burdock, but apparently they were off the menu  so I had to make do  with the medicinal properties of a Doombar. Jane wanted a Cool as a Cucumber, but had to make do with a Cosmopolitan, the poor thing, as they didn’t have the necessary ingredients in the Grills Lounge.  They did have the ingredients for a Ginger Cosmo though and that was the choice of drink the second time around.

I wasn’t sure if I would make it to dinner, but I was a brave little soldier and we made it to the PG dining room, but by the end of the meal I was flagging so we were tucked up in bed by 10 pm.

    1. Thank you Tim, that’s a good question. Indeed there are many and varied pharmacies in Cadiz, the Spanish have a word for them, Farmacia
